The MOON 🌙 and US

We look at the moon high up in the sky,
and never once ask it the question, “Why?”

Why are you small?
Why are you thin?
Why is your light so pale and dim?

Even at ten percent, we call it a grace.
We love the silver on its dark, dusty face.
But when it comes to the people we know,
we forget to allow them the space to grow.
We want them full, shining and bright,
every hour of the day, every hour of the night.
If they have a bad day, or feel thirty percent,
we wonder where their “perfect” side went.
The moon is far, so we let it be.
But people are close, so we struggle to see—
That everyone has a dark side, too.
A phase where they’re tired, or lonely, or blue.

Our purpose in life is to love like the stars:
To see the whole person, including their scars.
For love isn’t found in the light of the sun,
but in staying together until the “waning” is done.
