The Day On and Day Off

Imagine if the world was split,
One day to work, one day to sit.
Monday we could stay in bed,
With happy thoughts inside our head.
We’d go for walks and ride our bikes,
Or go on long and pretty hikes.
No more feeling tired or sad,
Just being free and being glad.

But then comes Tuesday, fast and loud,
With lots of people in a crowd.
We have to rush to get things done,
Because the work has just begun.
We try to finish every task,
“Is it over yet?” we have to ask.
The emails pile up in a heap,
While we just really want to sleep.
The cars are stuck in lines so long,
The traffic hums a grumpy song.

Since Wednesday is a day for rest,
We put our speed to a giant test.
We run to shops and buy our food,
In a very hurried mood.
It’s hard to finish what we start,
When work and play are pulled apart.

A day of fun is very sweet,
But doing work is quite a feat.
The shops might struggle, prices rise,
Underneath the holiday skies.
Maybe it’s better, don’t you see?
To find a way for you and me,
To have some work and have some play,
In a much more steady way.
