The year came to an end,
It’s time to stop and think, my friend.
We look back at the list we made,
To see which dreams began to fade,
And which ones we actually brought to life
Through all the joy and all the strife.
We look at resolutions set in January’s light,
Did we fulfill them, or lose them from our sight?
Now we must choose what travels on,
And what stays here once the year is gone.
As we plan for days that are brand new,
There are deeper questions to look through.
Did we make someone smile when their day was gray?
Did we help a stranger along the way?
When tears were rolling down a face,
Did we offer comfort and a little space?
Did we call our old friends just to see,
How their changing lives turned out to be?
Change is a wave that hits the shore,
Did we accept it, or look for more?
And what of the people we hold so dear—
Did we love them well throughout the year?
Or did we judge and misunderstand,
Instead of reaching out a hand?
We must look inward and be very kind,
Did we care for our body and our mind?
Our body supported us through the strain,
How will we thank it and prep it again?
Did we feed our soul with the things we love,
Like the hobbies that we are proud of?
We often run for fame and gold,
But those aren’t the stories that should be told.
Are we tired of chasing material things?
Let’s count the joy that a memory brings.
The small gestures that added spice,
The moments of love that were more than nice.
Be proud of the person you have become,
Through the many battles you’ve overcome.
Be proud of the bonds you chose to stay,
And the people who loved you anyway.
Gather your grace like a warm, bright coat,
And write yourself a hopeful note.
Step into the new year with your head held high,
Underneath a fresh and open sky.
With determination and a quiet heart,
Ready to make a brand-new start.
Spread some love as you pass by,
And keep that sparkle in your eye.
