“TOO OLD”

Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number: Ditch the “Too Old” Mindset

Society loves tossing around the phrase “too old.” Too old to learn a new skill, too old to wear that outfit, too old to chase a dream. But here’s the truth: no magic number on the calendar dictates what you can or can’t do.

Think about it. Our grandparents’ generation might have considered skydiving or bungee jumping “too old” activities. Now, it’s not uncommon to see retirees with adventurous spirits taking the plunge (literally!).

So, how old is “too old”? The answer is a resounding it depends. It depends on your health, your mindset, and maybe even a little bit of stubborn determination.

Here’s why the whole “too old” concept is outdated:

  • Age is a spectrum, not a finish line. Our bodies and minds change as we age, sure, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop growing. There are countless examples of people achieving incredible things later in life. Grandma Moses started painting in her 70s!
  • Experience is a superpower. The years you’ve accumulated come with a wealth of knowledge, resilience, and problem-solving skills. Don’t underestimate the power of perspective that comes with age.
  • Technology is our friend. Learning a new language? There’s an app for that. Want to take an online course? The internet is at your fingertips. Technology has broken down barriers and made it easier than ever to explore new interests at any age.

Here’s the challenge: the next time you hear that voice in your head whispering “You’re too old for that,” silence it. Instead, ask yourself: “Am I willing to try?” If the answer is yes, then go for it!

Life is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the adventure, keep that spark of curiosity alive, and don’t let a number on a piece of paper dictate your potential. You are never too old to learn, to grow, and to chase your dreams. 90-year-old skydivers anyone?
